Gym to crag classes at CityROCK

Pikes Peak Alpine SchoolKnowledge is the key to having a good day of climbing outdoor. If you’re new to the crags or you’ve been climbing with friends or meet-ups and want to learn how to set-up and clean the systems yourself this is the right class for you. This course teaches how to properly build a solid and timely anchors as well as clean and rappel from a route. You will learn new systems and techniques for safer and more efficient climbing.

This course will be tought in collaboration with Pikes Peak Alpine School (PPAS). You will work three hours with our indoor instructors and seven hours with PPAS guides directly at the outdoor location.

4 to 1 ratio - Max of 4 participants per guide

Participants:

  • Must be CityROCK certified for top rope belay
  • Must take the CityROCK indoor portion before taking the outdoor portion
  • Must be CityROCK member for special course pricing
  • Must be in four people to run the class

What does this class offer?

  • Lead belaying and belayer positioning
  • Rope handling and basic knots

Equipment needed

  • Rock shoes
  • Climbing harness
  • Belay/rappel device (ATC for rappelling, Grigri if you have one for belaying)
  • 16 ft 6 mm or 7 mm cordalette
  • 4 locking carabiners and 4 non-locking carabiners
  • Personal Anchor System (PAS)
  • Autoblock, AKA 3rd hand. This can be Sterling Hollowblock or 2' 5 mm cord. This is a rappel back-up
  • Climbing helmet
  • 10-12 quickdraws (optional...bring if you have them, but not required)
  • Sack Lunch
  • Sunscreen
  • Water
  • Appropriate layering to include rain shell

Harnesses, shoes, belay device, and helmet available to rent. Please prearrange this with PPAS or CityROCK.
We highly encourage the use of your own gear. Using your own gear will help you familiarize with your equipment while learning.
Due to the limited number of spaces for this course, we will not issue a refund for cancellation except under extreme circumstances.
