Originally housed at the end of the Soc n' Roll roller hockey rink in Monument, the climbing gym was the dream of two couples who wanted to build a family-friendly place to climb. The Rock at Soc n' Roll opened on December 26, 2004.
Within the first year, the roller rink was replaced with an ice rink. The Rock sold coffee to the ice hockey fans to help keep the business afloat which is why CityROCK continues to serve coffee today.
The current location opened on December 26, 2009 in what was formerly the Ute 70 Theater. The gym owners did much of the original renovation by hand, removing concession stand structures, theater seats, and the remaining fragments of the movie screen.
Both gyms were open together until 2010 when The Rock closed. CityROCK continued to develop over the next decade, with a massive renovation in 2018 which broadened the programming opportunities with the yoga room, programs deck, and Aerie.
Now, 20 years after the original opening, CityROCK continues embracing its EPIC values, anchored in the original vision of being a community hub where family and friends can climb and enjoy time together.
