Adult Education Director

Job summary: The Director of Adult Education and Fitness is responsible for helping CityROCK’s adult climbers go more up through the development and implementation of educational and fitness programs, as well as implementing and teaching risk mitigation programs to our staff. This position will involve both administrative and direct instructional responsibilities. We’re seeking an individual who has previously coached and is now ready to manage staff, help develop systems, and contribute to curriculum development. The Director reports to the General Manager and oversees AE coaches and independent fitness contractors.

Typical Workweek: 36-40 hours

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A college degree or equivalent experience
  • A strong work ethic and a friendly, outgoing personality
  • Outstanding customer service and excellent communication skills
  • Administrative excellence: be well-organized, motivated, and goal-oriented
  • Experience in staff management and event coordination
  • A demonstrated ability to manage large groups
  • An ability to adapt to a constantly evolving workload, aptitude for identifying priorities in a regularly changing environment, and readiness to respond to unexpected tasks
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications within 30 days of hire date
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in climbing-specific instruction for all ages
  • Experience with Rock Gym Pro and Microsoft Office
  • CWI, AMGA, and/or SPI certification
  • Certified Personal Trainer certification
  • Ability to climb 5.12+/V7 or higher

  • Teach all participants to take responsibility for their well-being
  • Ensure that supervision ratios are appropriate to the experience/number of participants
  • Create and enforce appropriate guidelines for each program/class/area
  • Ensure that the environment in which we are teaching has no additional hazards
  • Maintain and inspect equipment according to industry standards
  • Ensure that staff respond appropriately to emergencies

 

Staff Engagement

  • Hire staff members who positively contribute to the team
  • Effectively train staff for their positions

  • Create and maintain a solid curriculum that incorporates the latest techniques and research
  • Manage program users effectively
  • Implement programs and classes that make people want to come back
  • Design new programs tailored to our customers’ wants and needs
  • Maintain open lines of communication with our members and guests
  • Surprise and delight our guests and each other
  • Develop and maintain climbing-related fitness areas and classes

 

Profitability

  • Design and price programs and classes to optimize attendance and profit
  • Inform customers of our offerings
  • Make it easy for our customers to sign up for programs and classes
  • Encourage repeat business
  • Create and maintain the budget for the department
  • Compensation $21-$25/hour, depending on experience
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available after 60 days, with employer contribution
